The government and industry partners are to invest €88 million in setting up a national data analytics research centre which is expected to create 300 jobs in the next six years.
The new centre, to be called Insight, will bring together the resources of four universities, DCU, NUI Galway, UCC and UCD.
Insight aims to develop new technologies to capture the huge quantities of data generated every day and transform it into useful tools and resources for society, the economy, health and government.
Some 200 researchers and 30 industry partners will be involved in Insight, the largest of seven research centres being established by Science Foundation Ireland.
